Waiting at the pier for ‘Jackie’ to dock is the brightly illuminated A-shaped Christmas tree structure (since 2011) consisting of more than 2,000 mouth-blown glass baubles (7×1.75m radius), the tallest artwork of the set. Annually it takes a team of eight glassmakers two days to install and has become a festive season icon nationwide. This image is another indication that Malta is mostly a catholic country, as well as signifying that it is nearly the end of the year and so it is for the deck. This card switches off the set, pulls the plug and the lights go out. Saħħa, wishing you health, fare thee well, it has been good to know you (“So long farewell”, Sound of Music 1965).
