A formal mosaic of the skyline and surrounds of Mdina, Malta’s former capital before the arrival of the knights (spectrum art glass and marble gravel, 120x45cm. Note that each of the 2x2cm mosaic pieces when viewed from a 90° angle is a tiny ♦).
A diamond in the Mediterranean, Mdina’s history dates back more than 4,000 years. Its medieval name is Città Notabile or Notable/Noble City, as it was and still is, home to Malta’s nobility, descendants of Roman, Norman and Sicilian overlords who lived in Mdina’s impressive palaces from the 12th century onwards. Mdina is a fortified city with a deep, dry moat on an inland hill located on the island’s highest point (→black Joker).
